The man involved in the deadly shooting near the White House has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best, according to multiple US reports. The dramatic incident unfolded Saturday evening near a Secret Service checkpoint close to the White House, sparking panic and a temporary lockdown in the area.
CNN reported that Best allegedly opened fire first, prompting Secret Service officers to return fire. He later died at a nearby hospital. Authorities also confirmed that a bystander was injured during the exchange, though no Secret Service agents were harmed.
President Donald Trump was reportedly inside the White House at the time of the shooting but was never in immediate danger. Investigators are still working to determine Best’s motive as security agencies continue reviewing the incident.
