The European Union has fined Chinese e-commerce giant Temu €200m for allegedly allowing illegal and unsafe products on its platform, according to the BBC News.
Regulators say the company failed to properly assess risks tied to items like faulty chargers and hazardous baby toys sold through its marketplace. The European Commission described the lapse as a serious breach under the Digital Services Act, stressing consumer safety concerns. Temu has rejected the ruling, calling the fine “disproportionate” and insisting it is reviewing its options. The company has also been ordered to submit an action plan to fix the issues by August.
