A Florida woman has been charged with manslaughter after authorities said her two dogs escaped from her property and fatally attacked a neighbour who was out walking her own dog.
A routine dog walk turned into a nightmare in Florida, where a woman is now facing a manslaughter charge after her two dogs allegedly escaped and killed a neighbour.
As The Mirror reports, 29-year-old Linda Cutler was arrested after authorities linked her dogs to the fatal mauling of 50-year-old Jodi Cowan in Cocoa, Florida. Investigators say the dogs got out of Cutler’s yard before attacking Cowan while she was walking her own pet in the neighborhood. The victim suffered severe injuries and later died in hospital.
According to law enforcement officials, the dogs had a history of escaping and there had been previous concerns about their behavior. Authorities allege that despite knowing the risks, Cutler failed to properly secure the animals, a factor that ultimately led to the manslaughter charge.
The case took another dramatic turn when police claimed Cutler pretended to suffer a heart attack during her arrest, forcing officers to take her to a hospital before she was eventually booked into custody. Sheriff Wayne Ivey sharply criticised her actions, describing the tragedy as a preventable incident.
The dogs are expected to be euthanised, while Cutler could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The heartbreaking case has reignited debate about pet owner responsibility and dangerous dog regulations.
