Zelenskyy calls for meeting with Putin to end war, says Ukraine can’t wait for US

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has publicly invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to direct peace talks, urging diplomacy as the war enters its fifth year.

As the war between Russia and Ukraine drags into its fifth year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is making a bold new push for peace.

According to Daily Star, Zelenskyy has issued an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling for a face-to-face meeting aimed at ending the devastating conflict. In the message, Zelenskyy urged Putin to embrace diplomacy and proposed direct negotiations as a path toward a ceasefire and a broader peace settlement.

The Ukrainian leader suggested that talks could take place in a neutral country, with nations such as Switzerland, Turkey, or Arab states potentially acting as hosts. He argued that years of fighting have taken a heavy toll on both countries and warned that further delays could deepen instability and suffering.

The Kremlin confirmed receiving the letter and said Putin would be informed of its contents. However, there has been no immediate indication that Moscow is ready to accept the proposal.

The appeal comes amid continued military strikes, diplomatic deadlock, and growing international pressure to find a negotiated solution. Whether the letter leads to a breakthrough remains uncertain, but it has once again put the spotlight on the possibility of direct talks between the two wartime leaders.
