Silence From McConnell’s Camp Fuels Speculation Over Senator’s Health
Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, 84, has been absent from public life since being hospitalized on June 14, with the only sign of life a staged photo alongside wife Elaine Chao on July 12, according to The Daily Beast.
His office says he suffered a fall and “mild pneumonia” and won’t return “quite yet.” Chief of staff Terry Carmack, paid $226,000, was recently filmed avoiding reporters’ health questions alongside communications director Stephanie Penn.
Republican Rep. Tim Burchett called the silence “pathetic,” while Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear urged McConnell to “end the crazy speculation.” McConnell has a history of falls and public freezing episodes dating back to 2023.
Kentucky’s August 3 deadline looms for any special election should the seat become vacant.
