Iran has threatened retaliation against both the United States and Israel after Israeli airstrikes on Beirut, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.
The Middle East just got a lot more tense.
As Vanguard reports, Iran has issued a fresh warning to the United States and Israel following Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, an area widely known as a Hezbollah stronghold. The threat has heightened concerns that the region could be heading toward another dangerous escalation.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf declared that U.S. military bases and Israeli interests in the region could now be considered legitimate targets. Tehran accused both Washington and Tel Aviv of undermining diplomatic efforts and choosing military action over negotiation.
The latest warning followed Israeli strikes on southern Beirut, which Israel said were carried out in response to attacks by Hezbollah. The operation reportedly targeted Hezbollah-linked infrastructure and has further strained an already fragile ceasefire environment.
Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that continued Israeli military action in Lebanon threatens ongoing diplomatic efforts and violates the spirit of recent ceasefire arrangements. Tehran has also warned that any further escalation could trigger a stronger response from its allies across the region.
Meanwhile, world leaders are urging restraint. U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly pressed Israel to avoid further retaliation while encouraging Iran to remain engaged in diplomatic talks.
