Iran says Strait of Hormuz remains open despite IRGC closure warning

Iran’s Foreign Ministry says commercial traffic is moving through the Strait of Hormuz despite an earlier warning from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that the strategic waterway would remain closed. According to The New York Post, the ministry said vessels are passing safely under Iranian monitoring following a memorandum of understanding signed with the United States on June 18. The confusion followed an IRGC radio broadcast warning ships to stay away and claiming key conditions of the agreement had not been met. The conflicting messages have fueled concerns about divisions within Tehran as negotiations continue. The Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial route for global energy shipments and international trade.
