Fatal plane crash in Prince George’s county leaves three dead

Three people were killed after a single-engine plane crashed in a wooded area near Bowie, Maryland, prompting an investigation by aviation authorities.

A training flight turned fatal in Maryland on Saturday night after a single-engine Piper Cherokee crashed into a wooded area near Bowie, killing all three people on board.

Maryland State Police said the aircraft went down around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Routes 50 and 301, with the pilot and two adult passengers pronounced dead at the scene. The plane belonged to a Montgomery County flight school and was on a training flight from Ocean City, New Jersey, heading to Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg.

Authorities were first alerted by an iPhone crash alert just before midnight. Emergency crews from multiple agencies launched a ground and aerial search, locating the wreckage around 3:45 a.m. Sunday near a playground in a residential area.

Israeli media, citing the country’s Foreign Ministry, reported the victims were Israeli nationals, Washington Times reported. The FAA and NTSB are now investigating the cause of the crash. No injuries were reported on the ground.
