White House intervention may let Zuckerberg and Pichai skip a Senate hearing on child online safety, with deputies testifying instead.
Zuckerberg, Pichai may dodge Senate grilling on child safety
Looks like Zuckerberg and Pichai might be off the hook — for now. Sources say the White House quietly stepped in to help the Meta and Google CEOs avoid a Senate hearing on child online safety.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley has reportedly agreed to let Instagram’s Adam Mosseri and YouTube’s Neal Mohan testify instead, at a hearing tentatively set for July 28.
The deal came after behind-the-scenes talks involving the White House, lawmakers and tech giants. In return, the administration is said to be backing the bipartisan James T. Woods Act targeting online child exploitation.
POLITICO reports lawmakers can still subpoena the CEOs if needed.
