Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared a US-brokered agreement with Lebanon a “historic” victory, saying it weakens Iran and Hezbollah even as the militant group rejects the deal outright.
Benjamin Netanyahu is calling it a triumph. The Israeli Prime Minister on Saturday hailed a newly signed US-brokered agreement with Lebanon as a “historic” achievement and a major blow to both Iran and Hezbollah.
According to Vanguard, Netanyahu said the deal reached through direct Israeli-Lebanese negotiations strengthens Israel’s security while rolling back Tehran’s regional influence. He made clear, however, that Israeli troops are staying put in a southern Lebanon security zone until Hezbollah and other armed groups are fully disarmed.
Not everyone is celebrating. Hezbollah has flatly rejected the agreement, calling it a surrender that betrays Lebanese interests, and some Israeli political figures have also pushed back. Netanyahu, unbothered, insists the framework signals a turning point and the beginning of the end for what he described as Iran’s axis of influence.
