The Supreme Court has declined to hear Donald Trump’s appeal against a $5 million verdict finding him liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll.
Donald Trump must now pay E. Jean Carroll $5 million after the Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal. According to CNN, the decision leaves intact a 2022 jury verdict finding Trump sexually abused Carroll in a New York department store in the mid-1990s and later defamed her by denying the claim.
Trump had argued trial judge Lewis Kaplan erred by allowing testimony from other women who accused him of sexual misconduct and by letting jurors view the “Access Hollywood” tape. A federal appeals court had already upheld the verdict, finding no errors warranting a new trial.
CNN reported Trump deposited $5.5 million into a court-controlled account in 2023, meaning Carroll should receive the funds soon. He is separately appealing an $83.3 million judgment in another defamation case.
