A new survey shows Americans’ ideal movie length has shrunk to 88 minutes, down from 92 minutes in 2024, as audiences grow increasingly impatient with long runtimes.
Americans are done sitting through marathon movies. A fresh survey of 2,000 U.S. adults conducted by Talker Research, reported by Study Finds, puts the ideal film length at just 88 minutes, down from 92 minutes in a similar poll conducted back in 2024. Only 10 per cent of respondents wanted films running two hours or longer, while a mere three per cent favoured anything past two-and-a-half hours, according to the survey.
The generational gap is stark. Baby Boomers still tolerate 93 minutes on average, but Gen X (89), Millennials (86) and Gen Z (82) all want things wrapped up much faster. Meanwhile, this summer’s biggest releases run well past that mark, led by Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” which clocks in at a hefty 172 minutes.
