Trump left Turkey’s NATO Summit aboard the older Air Force One instead of the Qatari-gifted jet after Secret Service raised security concerns tied to potential Iran threats.
Trump Skipped Qatari Jet on Advice From Secret Service
Secret Service officials advised President Trump not to fly out of the NATO Summit in Ankara on the newer, Qatari-gifted Air Force One, opting instead for the older aircraft out of caution over a possible Iran-linked threat, The Hill reported.
When asked about the assessment, the Secret Service pointed to Trump’s own Truth Social post, in which he said the Qatari plane had been sent to RAF Mildenhall to greet servicemembers and picked it up on the final leg home.
The newer jet, a converted Boeing 747-8, lacks some of the older plane’s military defense systems.
Trump denied the switch was security-related, while tensions with Iran escalated following renewed strikes near the Strait of Hormuz.
