An 18-month-old boy who drowned in a pool was wrongly declared dead by a doctor and later found alive in a mortuary, despite a nurse alerting officers that she had detected a pulse.
Toddler Found Alive After Being Declared Dead
A toddler declared dead was somehow still alive — found breathing inside a mortuary.
According to a report by Peoples Gazette, the incident happened in February when an 18-month-old drowned in a pool during a Super Bowl gathering. He was rushed to Mercy Gilbert Medical Centre, where a doctor, identified as A. Toosi, pronounced him dead.
But police records tell a troubling story: before that declaration, an officer heard a nurse say, “I have a pulse.” When the officer relayed this to Dr Toosi, the doctor reportedly brushed it off, insisting he was in charge, held a medical degree, and had gone to medical school “for a reason.”
The toddler was later found alive in the mortuary.
The child’s parents have since been charged with murder and torture in connection with the case.
A hospital spokesperson called the situation “heartbreaking,” saying a thorough review of the care provided had been launched to identify what went wrong and strengthen protocols. Citing privacy concerns, the hospital declined to comment further on those involved, adding that it continues working with the family and their representative.
