Rubio seeks global allies in antifa fight, faces pushback

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has invited ministers from over 60 countries to a Washington meeting on “transnational far-left terrorism,” but the move has drawn skepticism from US officials and European allies who don’t see antifa as a serious threat.

Rubio Rallies Allies Against Antifa

Rubio’s antifa crusade is hitting turbulence — and not everyone’s on board.

According to a report by The Washington Post, the secretary of state has invited senior ministers from more than 60 countries to a Washington meeting next week targeting what the Trump administration calls a resurgence of far-left terrorism. But several US officials worry the effort is really aimed at cracking down on domestic left-wing activists, while European diplomats have expressed confusion, with one flatly saying, “We don’t have antifa.”

Counterterrorism czar Sebastian Gorka has reportedly discussed using foreign terrorism labels to unlock surveillance tools against Americans linked to the movement — though experts say antifa’s largely domestic nature makes formal designation legally difficult.
