Israel has warned the United States about intelligence it says points to a new Iranian plan to assassinate President Donald Trump.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Israeli officials recently shared the intelligence with Washington, citing people familiar with the matter. The alleged plot would mark another sharp escalation in the conflict between the United States and Iran.
The report did not disclose when Israel passed the information to US officials or how the intelligence was obtained. It also remained unclear how advanced the alleged plan was or whether Iran had begun taking steps to carry it out.
Iran has publicly threatened retaliation against Trump since a 2020 US drone strike killed Qassem Soleimani, the powerful commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force. The operation was authorised during Trump’s first presidential term.
Calls for Trump’s death have also featured during mourning events for Iran’s slain supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to the report.
Trump recently acknowledged the threats against him, saying he appeared on several Iranian target lists and had so far been fortunate.
Neither the White House nor the Israeli government publicly provided further details about the reported intelligence. Iran had not publicly responded to the specific allegation contained in the report.
