Accused Charlie Kirk shooter confessed, roommate says

Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, allegedly confessed to the shooting and told his roommate he wished he had not done it.

BBC News reports that prosecutors played a recorded police interview with Robinson’s former roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, during a preliminary hearing in Utah.

Twiggs told investigators that Robinson behaved nervously after returning home following the September 10, 2025 shooting at Utah Valley University. He allegedly paced around the house, became emotional and said he regretted what had happened.

The court also heard that Robinson later posted a message in a private Discord group admitting he was responsible shortly before surrendering to authorities.

Prosecutors say Robinson planned the attack, used his grandfather’s rifle and left the weapon wrapped in a towel near the scene. Ammunition recovered by investigators reportedly carried engraved messages.

Twiggs said Robinson had previously asked about borrowing an engraving tool, claiming it was needed for bullets intended for a family hunting trip. He also said Robinson had never spoken specifically about Kirk before the shooting.

Robinson faces an aggravated murder charge, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. He has not entered a plea.

The preliminary hearing will determine whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
