US STRIKES IRAN AGAIN — AND THE HORMUZ CRISIS IS ESCALATING FAST
The US-Iran conflict is intensifying with no end in sight.
The US military launched its third round of strikes against Iran on Saturday following an Iranian attack on the Cyprus-flagged container ship GFS Galaxy in the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command confirmed on social media. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck the vessel for allegedly using an “unauthorised route” through the strait, leaving one crew member missing and causing “significant” damage to its engine room.
Centcom was unsparing in its statement: “Iran was provided yet another opportunity to demonstrate adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding after being held accountable for earlier attacks on commercial vessels but has again failed. In response, the United States is imposing a heavy cost by continuing to degrade Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the strait.”
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered his response in six blunt words: “Iran made a poor choice. Now they pay.”
The strikes follow a second round earlier this week, ahead of which President Trump declared the framework ceasefire agreement “over” and told reporters: “I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum.” Peace negotiations, already fragile, now appear effectively dead.
