A tourist suffered serious injuries after a bull bison charged and tossed him 8 feet into the air at Yellowstone’s Bridge Bay Campground.
Enraged Bison Flips Grandfather During Yellowstone Walk
A man was seriously injured Friday evening after an agitated bull bison hooked him with its horn and hurled him into the air at Yellowstone National Park, Cowboy State Daily reports.
Professional photographer Mike MacLeod filmed the chaos, describing the bison as “angry, agitated and charging anything and everything.”
MacLeod said the bison had already charged a group of kids and a passing pickup truck before turning on the victim, who was walking with his grandson well over 100 yards away. When the bison lunged into the trees where the pair had taken cover, the grandson escaped, but his grandfather was flipped and slammed to the ground.
MacLeod and other bystanders rushed the bison, shouting and waving to scare it off before EMS arrived. The victim, per his grandson, sustained “significant injuries.” The National Park Service has not commented. It’s Yellowstone’s second bison incident this year, occurring during the animals’ annual rut season, which runs June through September.
