Meta disables Muse AI image generator after Hollywood pressure

Meta has disabled its Muse AI image generator on Instagram after backlash from CAA and SAG-AFTRA over privacy and consent concerns.

Meta Pulls AI Image Tool After Hollywood Backlash

Meta has reversed course on its newly launched Muse Image AI generator, pulling the feature from Instagram just days after its debut, according to a company statement reported by Deadline.

The tool let users @-mention public Instagram accounts to generate AI “remixes” of their content, automatically opting users in.

Meta admitted the feature “missed the mark” following criticism from CAA and SAG-AFTRA over nonconsensual use of likeness and creative work. CAA, which recently launched its own AI Vault likeness-archiving program, called the removal a step toward “responsible technology.”

SAG-AFTRA, which had urged members to opt out, said the discontinuation was “the responsible thing to do.” The episode adds to ongoing tension between AI development and creator protections in Hollywood.
