Study links frequent museum, movie visits to slower biological aging

A new study found older adults who regularly attend cinemas, museums, and theaters have a lower physiological age than infrequent attendees, with a gap of about three years.

Museums, Movies May Slow Biological Aging, Study Finds

Older adults in England who regularly visited cinemas, museums, and theaters had a lower physiological age than infrequent attendees, according to a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, Study Find report.

Researchers from the Institute of Science Tokyo tracked 1,899 individuals and found frequent cultural attendees averaged a physiological age of 66.9 years, compared to 69.9 for those who rarely engaged, even after adjusting for income and health. Each point increase on their 15-point engagement scale corresponded to a 0.085-year drop in physiological age.

Researchers noted the findings show association, not proof of causation, and may not generalize beyond England.
