UK Proposes Midnight Social Media Ban For Teens

The UK government has proposed an overnight social media curfew for 16- and 17-year-olds, with apps like TikTok and YouTube unavailable by default between midnight and 6am.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said the move, alongside disabling addictive features such as auto-play and infinite scroll, would help teenagers sleep better, focus on school, and spend more time with family. The proposal follows June’s announcement banning under-16s from several platforms entirely.

However, Conservative shadow education secretary Laura Trott criticised the plan as inconsistent, arguing that curfews teens can simply switch off “won’t achieve anything.”
