Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche fielded tough Senate questions on his Trump ties, the Epstein files, and a scrapped IRS settlement during his confirmation hearing on Wednesday.
BLANCHE FACES SENATE GRILLING OVER TRUMP TIES, EPSTEIN FILES
Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche appeared before the US Senate on Wednesday for his confirmation hearing, facing tough questions on several fronts, according to BBC. Senators pressed him on his past relationship with President Donald Trump, the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, and a controversial IRS settlement.
Blanche, who once represented Trump in criminal cases, denied being personally close to him, saying he was the president’s former lawyer, not his friend. He confirmed the proposed $1.7 billion “anti-weaponisation fund” tied to the IRS settlement will not proceed after a federal judge nullified the agreement.
Blanche apologized for mistakes in releasing Epstein files, calling the review a “Herculean task,” and told senators Trump is ineligible for 2028.
