The US has now struck Iran for nine consecutive nights, with President Donald Trump weighing a “wider war” as more warplanes head to the Middle East. But a US official familiar with administration discussions told The Washington Post the campaign faces limits: “We do not have enough to safely sustain operations, and I don’t think the White House is aware of that.”
Iran hit back hard, with its Revolutionary Guards claiming strikes on Bahrain, Jordan and Syria, while Kuwait reported missile and drone attacks on a power station and desalination plant. President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran was in “full-scale war” with Washington.
Yet diplomacy simmers beneath the noise. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said mediators had floated proposals, insisting “diplomacy also knows its duties well.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed the openness, saying the US would negotiate “if that door opens.”
The weekend strikes followed the deaths of three American soldiers in Iranian attacks last week, with dozens more reportedly injured.
