Testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Hegseth said the war has cost about $37.5 billion over five months and pushed lawmakers to approve $67 billion more in supplemental funding, according to Politico. Democrats pushed back hard, with Sen. Patty Murray calling the request an attempt to “skirt the normal appropriations process” rather than a genuine emergency.
Hegseth also confirmed China and Russia are “enabling some things Iran is doing,” though he declined to detail their involvement. U.S. forces have struck Iranian sites for 10 straight nights, and three American troops were killed in retaliatory attacks over the weekend.
