Speaking to The Economist in an interview published Thursday, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO said AI would eventually outperform humans in nearly every field except “being human,” according to Punch. Musk said the technology’s momentum has grown beyond anyone’s control, including his own, and predicted an “age of amazing abundance” rather than destruction.
He maintained that AI still carries a 10–20% risk of causing human extinction but said his outlook has shifted. Musk called for AI companies to hold regular safety meetings, arguing rivals could “keep each other honest” better than governments.
