Boelter Gets Two Life Sentences For Murdering Minnesota Speaker Hortman
Vance Boelter was sentenced Thursday to two consecutive life sentences without parole for murdering former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and wounding state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, according to a report by the Daily Wire.
At the sentencing, the Hortmans’ children described their devastation. “In one night, our family went from whole to shattered,” son Colin said, recalling his mother would never bake his wedding cake.
Boelter, disguised as a police officer, had researched lawmakers’ homes before his rampage. Officers later found a list of 45 Democratic officials in his car. Prosecutors said he aimed to shift Minnesota’s legislative balance of power.
Boelter apologized in court, telling victims he was “truly sorry” for the pain caused. He still faces separate state charges, including two counts of murder.
