Wildfires displace over 250,000 people across France and Spain

More than 250,000 people have fled their homes as wildfires rage across France and Spain, with a major blaze threatening the outskirts of Bordeaux.

France was set to deploy a specially adapted A400M cargo aircraft to drop flame retardants on the Gironde wildfire, joining 18 other aircraft in what officials called a “long and very difficult” fight, according to Global News, citing The Canadian Press. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the fire had moved to within 30 kilometres of Bordeaux, prompting evacuations from the city’s western suburbs.

In Spain, about 70,000 people were evacuated, with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez noting the country has already lost 130,000 hectares to fire this year. No deaths have been reported in either country, though dozens of firefighters were injured in France.
