Doctors, Lawyers Urge Coordinated Crackdown on China’s Organ Harvesting
Speaking at a Capitol Hill forum on July 21, human-rights lawyer David Matas said doctors should warn transplant patients that traveling to China could mean someone is killed for their organs, according to The Epoch Times. He was joined by neurologist Alejandro Centurion and other panellists in calling for criminal penalties, transplant tourism restrictions, sanctions, and international coordination.
The panel noted that a 2019 independent tribunal found forced organ harvesting had occurred in China for years, with Falun Gong practitioners likely the principal source. Two US bills targeting the practice remain before Congress, while six states have already restricted funding for China-linked transplants.
