13 killed in tourist plane crash in Peru

A small tourist plane crashed near Peru’s Nazca Lines on Saturday, killing all 13 people on board.

The aircraft, carrying 11 passengers and two pilots, went down around 1:00 p.m. local time in the Pueblo Viejo region after taking off from an airport in Pisco.

Police Major Jorge Andrade said there were no survivors given the severity of the crash, with four bodies recovered so far. Authorities have not yet identified the victims or determined the cause.

According to BBC and local media reports, the plane was conducting a sightseeing flight over the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Nazca Lines. The crash follows similar fatal incidents in 2022 and 2010, which killed seven and six people respectively.
