Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said Danish and U.S. officials “still have a fundamental disagreement” on Greenland after meeting to discuss the issue on Wednesday.
“We have decided to form a high-level working group to explore if we can find a common way forward,” Rasmussen said after he and Greenland’s foreign minister met with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House. “The group, in our view, should focus on how to address the Americans’ security concerns, while at the same time respecting the red lines of the kingdom of Denmark.”
President Trump has repeatedly said he wants to acquire Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, citing national security reasons. He repeated that again on Wednesday morning, saying “it is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building” and that “NATO should be leading the way for us to get it.”
