Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in Munich and worldwide on February 14 to demand the overthrow of Iran’s government, fueled by President Trump’s support and a massive U.S. military buildup in the Persian Gulf.
An estimated 250,000 protesters flooded Munich’s fairgrounds on Saturday, coinciding with the Munich Security Conference to demand an end to Iran’s clerical rule. Exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi addressed the crowd, urging the international community to “place themselves on the right side of history” by supporting a democratic transition. Parallel demonstrations erupted in major cities including London, Tokyo, and Melbourne.
The “Global Day of Action” follows President Trump’s recent endorsement of regime change as “the best thing that could happen” for the region. As nuclear negotiations are set to resume in Geneva, Washington has deployed a second aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Persian Gulf. Pahlavi warned that the Tehran government is “simply buying time” and called for severed financial lifelines.
