Savannah Guthrie is reportedly contemplating an exit from her anchoring role at NBC out of concern for her family’s safety as a major forensic breakthrough emerges in the ongoing search for her kidnapped mother.
Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is reportedly considering a departure from NBC as the search for her 84-year-old mother, Nancy, enters its fifteenth day. Sources suggest Guthrie fears her public profile made her mother a target, particularly after a November segment featuring Nancy. Citing the “exhaustive and traumatic” ordeal, NewsNation’s Paula Froelich reported, “This absolutely came out of the blue, and I think she’s really concerned that it was because of her job.”
The investigation reached a critical juncture on Sunday when the FBI announced that a recovered glove contains a DNA profile matching a suspect seen on surveillance footage. While Guthrie has withdrawn from upcoming Olympic coverage to focus on the crisis, colleagues at NBC remain in “soul searching” mode regarding the safety of staff families. A show source noted, “There’s a lot of soul searching at NBC about whether their segment made Nancy a target.”
