Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla’s specialized, pedal-free Cybercab will enter initial production this April as part of a high-volume manufacturing shift toward a fully autonomous transportation-as-a-service model.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reaffirmed that production for the company’s steering-wheel-free and pedal-free “Cybercab” is set to begin this April, marking a major milestone in Tesla’s shift toward an AI and robotics-focused business model. While the first production unit recently rolled off the line at Giga Texas, Musk warned that the “output S-curve will be very slow in the beginning” as the company utilizes a radical manufacturing redesign aimed at ultimately achieving five times higher volume. The two-seat vehicle is designed to anchor an autonomous ride-sharing network, though Tesla faces potential rebranding to names like “Cybercar” or “Cybervehicle” due to trademark disputes and state regulations that restrict the use of the word “taxi.” Despite these hurdles, Tesla reported reaching 1.1 million active Full Self-Driving subscriptions by the end of 2025, providing a growing foundation for its vision that “the vast majority of miles traveled will be autonomous in the future.”
