Epstein files reveal acts that may amount to crimes against humanity — UN

UN-appointed experts say allegations in newly released Epstein files may amount to crimes against humanity and have called for an independent, thorough investigation.

Independent experts appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council have said allegations contained in newly released Jeffrey Epstein files may meet the legal threshold of crimes against humanity. In a statement, they cited evidence of a “global criminal enterprise” marked by racism, corruption and misogyny, adding, “So grave is the scale, nature, systematic character, and transnational reach of these atrocities… that a number of them may reasonably meet the legal threshold of crimes against humanity.”

The experts called for an independent and impartial investigation, raising concerns about “serious compliance failures and botched redactions” that exposed sensitive victim information. They said, “The reluctance to fully disclose information or broaden investigations, has left many survivors feeling retraumatized and subjected to what they describe as ‘institutional gaslighting.’” The U.S. Justice Department has yet to respond to the remarks.
