A private investigator has suggested Nancy Guthrie’s abduction may be linked to cartel-related activity in Arizona, though authorities have not confirmed the theory.
A California-based private investigator, Bill Garcia, has claimed that Nancy Guthrie, 84, may have been abducted in a cartel-linked “money-making venture” but remains in Arizona. “That particular area of Arizona is a high drug and money transporting area,” Garcia said, adding that the suspect appeared to be a “low-level associate.”
Guthrie was reported missing from her Tucson home on Feb. 1, and the FBI released images of a masked suspect at her door.
Authorities have not endorsed Garcia’s theory, with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously suggesting Guthrie may have been taken as “revenge for something.” While FBI sources indicated she could be in Mexico, Nanos maintained evidence points to Tucson.
Garcia argued heavy law enforcement presence makes cross-border transport unlikely, saying she may be held “north of Tucson in that hundred-to-130-mile area between Tucson and outside of Phoenix and Mesa Arizona.”
