The U.S. State Department has ordered Americans in 14 Middle Eastern countries to leave immediately as escalating Iran-related hostilities disrupt regional air travel.
The U.S. Department of State on Monday urged Americans in 14 Middle Eastern countries to “DEPART NOW” amid escalating conflict involving Iran and Israel. Assistant Secretary of State Mora Namdar said citizens should leave via commercial transport “due to serious safety risks.” The advisory follows U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks that have disrupted regional airspace and stranded travelers.
Airports across Israel, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and other nations were closed, with more than 2,800 flights canceled Sunday alone. In a February 28 statement, the State Department said: “Following the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide and especially in the Middle East should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts.” Officials urged travelers to expect further delays and monitor embassy updates.
