UK bans Iran-linked march through London

The United Kingdom has banned the annual Al-Quds Day March in London over fears of unrest linked to rising tensions in the Middle East.

The United Kingdom has banned this year’s Al-Quds Day March in London, citing fears of public disorder amid rising tensions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood approved a request from the Metropolitan Police to block the annual demonstration, which usually takes place near the end of Ramadan.

Authorities warned that the scale of the protest and possible counter-demonstrations could lead to violence. While the march has been banned, officials said a stationary protest may still be permitted under strict conditions, a decision criticised by organisers including the Islamic Human Rights Commission, which described the ban as politically motivated.
