Trump said the U.S. had no prior knowledge of Israel’s strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field and warned Tehran that any retaliation against Qatar could trigger a massive American response.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned Iran not to retaliate against Qatar after an Israeli strike on the South Pars Gas Field triggered tensions and pushed oil prices higher. He said the United States had no prior knowledge of the attack carried out by Israel.
In a social media post, Trump distanced Washington from the strike on the world’s largest natural gas field, stressing that Qatar was not involved. “The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen,” he said.
Trump warned that further Iranian retaliation against Qatar would provoke a major response. “NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar — In which instance the United States of America… will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field,” he said.
