Melania Trump has welcomed the first conviction under a new US law criminalising AI-generated sexual abuse content, marking a key step in tackling digital exploitation.
Melania Trump has hailed the first criminal conviction secured under the “Take It Down Act,” a US law targeting AI-generated sexual abuse content and revenge porn. The conviction marks a major milestone in efforts to regulate harmful uses of artificial intelligence and protect victims of digital exploitation.
A 37-year-old Ohio man pleaded guilty in a US District Court to charges including cyberstalking, creating obscene AI-generated content, and publishing digital forgeries. Prosecutors said he used multiple AI tools to harass victims, generating and distributing explicit images without consent, alongside threats and intimidation campaigns.
The law, passed with strong bipartisan support, imposes penalties of up to three years in prison for offences involving minors and requires websites to remove illegal content within 48 hours. Authorities say the case sets a precedent for future prosecutions as governments move to address rising cybercrimes linked to artificial intelligence.
