US, Iran may resume peace talks this weekend amid ongoing tensions

The U.S. and Iran are considering resuming high-level talks in Islamabad this weekend as efforts continue to resolve key geopolitical disputes.

Negotiating teams from the United States and Iran may return to Islamabad later this week, five sources said, following recent high-level talks that ended without a breakthrough. A source said no fixed date had been set, but both sides were considering a meeting as early as the weekend.

The previous discussions, led by JD Vance and Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, marked the first direct engagement in over a decade. “No firm date has been set, with the delegations keeping Friday through Sunday open,” a senior Iranian source said, adding momentum to ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Pakistani officials confirmed outreach to both sides, noting a positive response from Tehran for another round. Key issues include the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions. Vance said, “We leave here with a very simple proposal, a method of understanding that is our final and best offer,” adding, “We’ll see if the Iranians accept it.”
