Trump is set to read 2 Chronicles 7:11–22 from the Oval Office during the 6 p.m. ET hour on Tuesday as part of “America Reads the Bible,” a weeklong event marking 250 years of the Bible in America and featuring nearly 500 participants reading Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.
President Trump is turning to Scripture amid his feud with the Pope. On Friday, he announced he will participate in “America Reads the Bible,” a week-long marathon event hosted by Christians Engaged starting Saturday evening.
Trump recorded his segment from the Oval Office, reading from the Old Testament book of 2 Chronicles — a passage his Christian supporters interpret as a call to national repentance. The president said in a statement that he applauds “every citizen participating in the America Reads the Bible initiative. Together, we will honor Holy Scripture, renew our faith, usher in a historic resurgence of religion on American shores, and rededicate the United States as one Nation under God.”
Roughly 500 readers are listed on the event’s website, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Sen. Ted Cruz, and Rev. Franklin Graham. The marathon reading comes as Trump and Pope Leo XIV remain at odds over the Iran war, with the pope rejecting the administration’s “just war” framing.
