President Trump canceled a scheduled diplomatic trip to Pakistan after rejecting an initial Iranian proposal, claiming that Tehran immediately submitted a “much better” paper following the cancellation.
President Donald Trump announced he has canceled a planned diplomatic mission to Pakistan, citing the inefficiency of long-distance travel when Iran’s initial negotiating position remained insufficient. Speaking to reporters at Palm Beach International Airport, Trump stated, “There’s no reason to wait two days, have people traveling for 16, 17 hours. We’re not doing it that way,” asserting that the U.S. will now conduct further dealings by phone because “we have all the cards.”
Despite the abrupt cancellation, Trump claimed the move prompted a swift response from Tehran: “Interestingly, immediately when I canceled it, within 10 minutes, we got a new paper that was much better.” While acknowledging that Iran has “offered a lot, but not enough” regarding their nuclear program, Trump maintained that the core objective remains preventing the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon, noting, “That whole deal is not complicated. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. It’s very simple.” Furthermore, the President suggested that internal political instability is hampering Iran’s leadership, remarking that there is “tremendous infighting” and that, “In many cases, I think they’re fighting not to be the leader.”
