Norwegian Nobel Institute receives 287 nominations for 2026 Peace Prize

The Norwegian Nobel Institute has announced 287 nominations for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, comprising 208 individuals and 79 organisations, with the winner to be revealed on October 9.

The Norwegian Nobel Institute has received 287 nominations for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, comprising 208 individuals and 79 organisations — below the record 376 set in 2016 but still notably high.

The institute noted that “in an increasingly conflictual world, there is no lack of candidates whose principled commitment and innovative action points towards a brighter future.”

Among publicly disclosed nominees are Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, and the International Criminal Court. Several nominators have also put forward US President Donald Trump, who openly sought last year’s prize before the committee honoured Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado instead.

The prize winner will be announced on October 9. Nominee identities remain confidential for 50 years under Nobel statutes.
