French police detain two teenagers over death of 11-year-old

French police have arrested two teenagers after an 11-year-old boy was found dead on the bank of the Vilaine River in Rennes, sparking a murder investigation.

According to the Daily Mirror, the child was discovered lifeless on Sunday after a fisherman reportedly heard cries for help and alerted emergency services. Despite rescue efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later detained a 16-year-old boy at his home, while a 15-year-old girl turned herself in to police. Prosecutor Frederic Teillet said both teenagers were being questioned on suspicion of the murder of a minor.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened and how the three children knew one another. The inquiry remains ongoing.
