JD Vance warns Air Force graduates not to ‘submit’ to AI in warfare

Vice President JD Vance has a message for America’s future military leaders: use artificial intelligence, but don’t let it take over. Speaking at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation ceremony, Vance said his biggest concern about AI is how it could reshape warfare in the years ahead.

According to the Daily Caller, Vance urged cadets to never “submit” to AI when making life-and-death decisions, arguing that such choices must remain in human hands. He echoed concerns recently raised by Pope Leo XIV about relying too heavily on digital technology for major moral decisions.

While acknowledging that AI is already transforming the battlefield, Vance stressed that technology should support military personnel not replace their judgment, conscience, or responsibility.
