A busy market day in Sudan’s North Kordofan turned into tragedy after a drone strike hit civilians gathered in the area, leaving bodies and chaos in its wake.
According to Anadolu Agency, a Sudanese rights group known as the Emergency Lawyers said at least 11 civilians were killed and dozens more injured when a drone struck the Abu Zaeima market in Hamrat Al Sheikh locality. As the source reports, the attack happened in the morning, when the market was active with traders and residents going about daily business.
The group described the strike as part of a disturbing pattern of repeated attacks in the region, saying it came less than 24 hours after earlier drone strikes that also hit nearby villages and a civilian vehicle. As the source reports, the violence has raised fresh concerns about the growing use of drones in populated areas of Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
Rights advocates say the repeated targeting of civilian spaces reflects a worsening humanitarian situation, where everyday locations like markets and roads are increasingly becoming battle zones. They are calling for urgent accountability and an end to attacks that continue to put ordinary people at risk.
For now, families in North Kordofan are left counting losses, while the wider conflict shows no sign of slowing down.
