At least one person is dead after a shooter opened fire Monday morning at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont.
The gunman struck the county’s largest mosque around 11:40 a.m. PT, prompting a massive law enforcement response. According to the Daily Mail, aerial footage captured a white sheet covering a body outside the building, where terrified parents rushed to rescue their children from the onsite Al Rashid school.
“Several people are believed to have been shot,” Officer Anthony Carrasco told the Associated Press.
Police stated the investigation is “still active but contained,” adding, “We have significant resources on scene at this time.”
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria posted that emergency personnel are “actively working to protect the community and secure the area.” A reunification center has been established at a nearby church.
