German police are hunting a 21-year-old suspect after a van attack at Berlin’s Christopher Street Day Pride festival killed one person and injured at least 16 others.
Authorities identified the suspect as Abdul Ballout, saying he was already known to police for links to Islamist circles in Berlin. Investigators believe the attack was motivated by Islamist extremism and have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any photos or videos that could assist officers in their ongoing investigation into the incident.
According to the Discern Report, the van ploughed into a crowd near the Pride route before crashing into a tree, prompting organisers to cancel the remaining celebrations planned for the day.
Police said the search for the suspect continues as the investigation remains active.
