Cambodia orders Africans to exit by May 31

Cambodia has issued a tough immigration ultimatum to African nationals, ordering them to leave the country by May 31 or face arrest, jail time and an $8,000 fine.

According to Sahara Reporters, the Cambodian government said affected foreigners from countries including Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon and Uganda must exit once their temporary waivers expire. Authorities warned that anyone still in Cambodia from June 1 would be detained at airports or “any hideout” across the country.

Officials said offenders could face up to two years in prison before deportation. Cambodian police are also set to begin nationwide raids targeting undocumented foreigners immediately after the deadline lapses.

The directive was issued by the country’s General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior.
